Hi Joan,
I see you mentioned Big Brother. With regard to your points:
“Challenge war, you're a coward and a traitor ...” Orwell had this to say about pacifism: - “You are wrong also in thinking that I dislike wholehearted pacifism, though I do think it mistaken. What I object to is the circumspect kind of pacifism, which denounces one kind of violence while endorsing or avoiding mention of another.” – George Orwell
See, that's the problem. Terrorists are trying to destroy western civilization. Not even counting all the suicide bombings, the cartoon riots alone show their fanaticism. Democrats like myself, let alone conservatives, see this as a crisis far greater then World War II. This is where the nation's energy needs to be focused. Take care of this first, then get back to our political squabbles.
“Challenge wiretapping, you're a wimp and a terrorist protector.”
From my point of view, we need to do everything possible to prevent another 9/11. As a resident of Baltimore, we have dozens of container ships come into the harbor every day, then leave by truck or rail to spread throughout the nation. Even one dirty bomb would be devastating.
“Express concern about civil liberties and you're Michael Dukakis, a card-carrying member of the ACLU …”
The ACLU defended the civil liberties of NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) In my opinion; people who prey on innocent kids have no civil liberties. By the same token, people who plot the mass killing of innocent men, woman and children have no civil liberties either.
“When Democrats try to stir up citizen outrage over Big Brother watching them …”
In The Prevention of Literature, Orwell writes, “But what is sinister, as I said at the beginning of this essay, is that the conscious enemies of liberty are those to whom liberty ought to mean most … the direct, conscious attack on intellectual decency comes from the intellectuals themselves.” And “The desire for liberty among the intellectuals themselves is the most serious symptom of all." He states of the left that,” known facts are suppressed and distorted,” and in a line that is comparable to today’s media bias, Orwell writes, “if you possess information that conflicts with the prevailing orthodoxy you are expected to either distort it or keep quiet about it.”
He's talking about the modern Democrat party.
“All left-wing parties in the highly industrialized countries are at bottom a sham.” - George Orwell
